Enhance your iTunes experience with GimmeSomeTune
I've been
happily using Menuet and Growl together to make my interaction with iTunes that
much more enjoyable: Menuet for the programmable hot keys, and Growl for the popup notifications. But, what if there
was one utility that handled both functions, and what if it was free?Check out GimmeSomeTune. There's a opaque popup window that displays information plus album art, and completely user-configurable hot keys let you control nearly all of iTunes' functions. Did I mention it's free?
GimmeSomeTune requires Mac OS 10.3 or later and is universal.

I was looking at this, but decided against it because as far as I can tell you have to use modifiers with the hotkeys. With Menuet its a just one tap on a function key for my main controls (Play/Pause, Next Track etc.)
For this reason I'm sticking with my Menuet + Growl combination.
Shame, because I really like the look of the rest of the program. (If anybody sees it differently please post it in the comments!)

SizzlingKeys also does a good job at this:

I use Quicksilver to control iTunes. Don't see a reason to run another utility when QS can do soooo much more.

another vote for Sizzling Keys - good app and very stable, easy to use.

Thanks guys...I've just checked out the Sizzling Keys site and Version Tracker feedback and it looks like that's exactly what I've been looking for...
As far as I can tell you don't to use modifiers with the hotkeys - can anyone confirm this? (At work at the moment stuck on Windoze so can't try it out for myself!)
Cheers

Sorry, that should read
"...you don't *have* to use modifiers with the hotkeys..."

Second the Quicksilver recommendation. Triggers to control iTunes, Growl notifications for, well, the notifications. One less app to run altogether, if you already use Quicksilver!

I have been using synergy for a couple years now.
http://wincent.com/a/products/synergy-classic/
It has assignable hotkeys (I use them to change tracks and adjust the rating of the currently playing song up/down)
It has a growl like pop up when the song changes (as well as other informational popups)
You can also trigger an applescript tied to an event in itunes (good for "uploading" a list of songs to your blog).
It's not free ($10) but at least its reasonably priced.

I'd been using Sizzling Keys until I finally sat down and started exploring Quicksilver. Once I got QS configured to my liking, there was really no reason to run other apps that just duplicate what it already handles. I may even get around to setting up Growl, but QS has a decent notification popup, so there's no rush.

This application is great!!! Thank you!
And by the way, it is possible not to use any modifiers for the hotkeys... I'm loving this great little app!
Thank you

This works great combined with Griffin's PowerMate.

I had wanted to use my PowerMate to only control iTunes, no matter what application I was in (instead of having iTunes in front). This does the trick very nicely.

SizzlingKeys is awesome - I've never quite got the hang of QuickSilver.

I, like many of you, use Quicksilver triggers to control my iTunes. When it comes to displaying the information, I use GrowlTunes, which is available through the Growl official site (as a free download).

I just prefer the notification of Sizzling Keys to that of QS....more configurable and I place it in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Not trying to hijack this, but have any of you QS users tried Tunetag...

Here's another vote for Synergy by Wincent Software. Constantly updated, and lots of config options. Check it out at Wincent.com .

I'm a big fan of Synergy also. I don't think I would use anything else.
